Sister's Say: A Resiliant, Rebellious and Remarkable conclusion to the trilogy!
Now an active member of the resistance, Lena has been transformed. The nascent rebellion that was under way in Pandemonium has ignited into an all-out revolution in Requiem, and Lena is at the center of the fight.
After rescuing Julian from a death sentence, Lena and her friends fled to the Wilds. But the Wilds are no longer a safe haven—pockets of rebellion have opened throughout the country, and the government cannot deny the existence of Invalids. Regulators now infiltrate the borderlands to stamp out the rebels, and as Lena navigates the increasingly dangerous terrain, her best friend, Hana, lives a safe, loveless life in Portland as the fiancĂ©e of the young mayor. Requiem is told from both Lena’s and Hana’s points of view. The two girls live side by side in a world that divides them until, at last, their stories converge.
**SPOILERS FOR DELIRIUM AND PANDEMONIUM LIE AHEAD! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THOSE YET!**
Welcome to the 2nd leg of Dark Days of Winter Blog Tour. These have indeed been Dark Days, not only with winter looming upon us, but also in the Delirium series. Lena's life is on the cusp of complete fall out. The revolution is at hand, but the cureds are not going to "go gentle into that good night." (Dylan Thomas) Regulators are everywhere even in the Wilds just waiting to pick off the rebels. Lena is also torn between 2 boys, Alex and Julian, her past and her present. Everything around her physically and emotionally is crumbling. Lauren's writing is poetically beautiful, and no one but her could bring to life the heartbreak and turmoil that Lena is facing not only inside herself but in the physical world around her.
This is the 1st novel, where we get to see Alex and Julian together with Lena. The dynamic is very interesting, but we only get to see it from Lena's point of view. We get to experience her heartbreak and uncertainty, but also try to understand what is going on in the boys head also. I wonder how the story would have been different seeing the tension and seething of jealousy right below the surface from a different prospective? We see all of Lena's thoughts but none of the boys. It takes awhile to actually get to really see anything between them, but then how was Ms. Oliver chooses to unleash the final showdown in the love triangle is perfect and poignant. And, I know basically what all of you really want to know is did she choose Alex or Julian. Well, I will tell you she chose.... nah....just joking! Seriously, you have to read it to find out!
I would be remiss in not mentioning Hana who has just as big a role in this book as Lena. The POV is split between her and Lena. Hana offers a unique perspective. We actually get to be inside the mind of a cured. We also see her stuggling with her past and how she remembers it. We also find out some secrets that aren't to easy to digest. We are able to see the corruptness of the government and it's leaders from the inside. It honestly made me more sympathetic toward the rebels. I wanted them to succeed all the more after seeing the absolutely evil of the ruling parties. It mentions in the blurb, that Lena's and Hana's fates finally cross paths. And let me just say, it is explosive!
Now, I have to say a little about Lauren Oliver's writing. Her writing is one of my favorites in the YA genre. If you want to know what it feels like to be torn between 2 loves, slowly suffocate from a swarming fire, or have bullets rain down all around you without ever truly being in danger? Then read this series by Lauren Oliver. She will make you feel like you are right next to her characters in the midst of the action and at any moment your life could be snuffed out. This was an amazing series, and I'm so sad to have it come to an end. It's hard to say goodbye to characters that I have grown to know and love. The conlusion of this series left me on the edge of my seat, heart pounding in my chest and begging the characters to just stay alive! Lauren Oliver a remarkable writer, and I'm so excited to see what she has coming next!

Giveaway of a SIGNED COPY OF REQUIEM by Lauren Oliver from Harper Teen!

I think they're both great, but as of right now I think she should choose Alex! However, my opinion could definitely change when I read Requiem!
ReplyDeleteHmm. This is a hard one, but I think I'm going for Alex :P
ReplyDeleteThat's such a hard one. Like torture so I can't really pick. I'm a huge fan of Lauren Oliver. Can't wait to read this.
ReplyDeleteI hope she chooses Alex and her friend Hannah gets Julian.
ReplyDeleteI'm terrified of this book. I'm scared to see how it all wraps up. I'm dying to know but I'm still apprehensive. Fantastic review. Oh and I am 100% behind Alex!!!
ReplyDeleteI really like Alex, but the way that things ended in Pandemonium, I'm not so sure any more.
ReplyDeleteAlex!
ReplyDeletePick Alex! Pick Alex!
ReplyDeleteShe should choose whoever makes her happy. (Alex.....)
ReplyDeleteI don't know! I haven't read this series yet and I really want to :)
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteIt is a hard choice, but I would pick Alex!
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Leanne
At this point I'd say Alex, but I haven't read Requiem yet to finalize my decision. :) I LOVE Lauren Oliver. So excited for this one. :)
ReplyDeleteI am SO excited to read this one and figure out how the trilogy will end! Before I would have said Julian, but I just reread both Delirium and Pandemonium and now I don't know, I am really torn.
ReplyDeleteAlex
ReplyDeleteI'm going to go with Alex. I loved him so much in the first book!
ReplyDeleteAlex of course!
ReplyDeleteAlex
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm in the minority but I hope she picks Julian!
ReplyDeleteI'm rooting for Alex
ReplyDeleteI love Alex, but I really like Julian too!
ReplyDeleteI guess i'm currently undecided. I'll decide in Requiem.
Alex. I didn't actually like Julian very much.
ReplyDeleteJulian..only because I found Alex's reaction in Pandemonium to be too rude.

I understand what your saying. But how would you feel if you sacrificed yourself to save the love of your life and the whole time you were behind bars all you thought about was the love that you two shared and how strong it was, and that you were going to stay strong for her, then when you escaped, so happy that you were going to see her again, FINALLY! You see her in the arms of another man, promising herself to him forever? When she made that same promise to you. I'd be pretty ticked off too, so I totally get why Alex was mad. He was OBVIOUSLY happy to see Lena, but his anger at the sight unfolding in front of him overpowered his happiness and thus creating a rude reaction.
DeleteThink about that.
Alex
ReplyDeleteAgh! I don't really know...I suppose I'd say...Alex.
ReplyDeleteTeam Alex all the way! Been looking forward to this for months!
ReplyDeleteAlex all the way! Despite the fact that I was not impressed by his behavior at the end of Pandemonium, always Alex. :)
ReplyDeleteAlex!
ReplyDeleteAlex!!!! I really love him so hopefully she will end up with him. <3
ReplyDeleteALEX!!!!
ReplyDeleteThey are both great choices. I think she should choose Alex, but I'm not sure that would be an option for him since he believes she deserted him.
ReplyDeletei can't wait!!! so exited its almost here!! Requiem <3
ReplyDeleteshe need to chose Alex, he is her first love !!! and he has suffer a lot so did she... they deserve to be together and happy <3
ReplyDeleteTruly if given the chance of ever seeing Alex again when I read the first book I never would have considered anther guy but its almost like when Alex gave lena Love he gave her wings and when he left she had to fly by herself and it hurt now that she's given Jullian wings she can never take them back and at the end of Pandemonium Alex seamed almost like he had lost himself and i couldn't bear to see Lena get hurt because he is broken down. To give is one thing but to take is another.
ReplyDeleteAlex didn't mean to but he took and Lean didn't mean to but she gave and Jullian needs her now, Alex will heal.
I choose Jullian
-Elizabeth
I chose Alex, but after reading your explanation I'm on the fence. That is great reasoning... and very true. Hmmm...
DeleteI am incredibly torn between Alex and Julian </3 Alex taught Lena to love and Lena taught Julian in return, at least that's how I feel about it. Both are such prime and beautiful characters for Lena to choose from.
ReplyDeleteI am Team Alex but I agree with what you said.
DeleteAlex taught Lena how to love, and in return Lena taught Julian. And now, I think it's time Julian taught Hana. (Even though they've never met. Yet)
Alex and Lena should be together.
Julian and Hana should be together.
Alex
ReplyDeleteErghhh I want Alex and Julian too many feels DX
ReplyDeletealex
ReplyDeleteAlex!
ReplyDeleteAlex, for sure.
ReplyDeleteI'm torn between ALEX AND JULIAN T_T But honestly, as much as I love Julian, I would choose Alex. The love Alex and Lena shared can never go away especially since Alex showed Lena what love is and how it feels like to be in love. LenaxAlex=my beautiful otp<3
ReplyDeleteFor me, it's always going to be Alex.
ReplyDeleteHow could one choose????
ReplyDeleteI fell in love with Alex hard in Delirium, and I absolutely adored Julian in Pandmonium, but if I really, really had to choose one, I'd say Alex? Because I love him first LOL
I'm scared of what this book is going to bring, but I'm still rooting for Alex all the way. I just hope he can find his old self again, because it seems like he was changed by the crypts. Which is, I can only assume, where he most likely was. :(
ReplyDeleteI honestly have no read this series, but it's one I have been wanting to start.
ReplyDeleteAlex. Alex. Alex.
ReplyDeleteBut I have this horrible paranoid thought that maybe Lauren Oliver decided to go all "girl power" and have Lena choose neither of them. I really hope that's not the case...
After reading Pandemonium, I was really torn between Julian or Alex. I can't choose.. But as I thought more about it, I think ALEX deserves to be with Lena more than Julian. :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe Alex...
ReplyDeleteWhoa!!!! I love this book!!!!!! And I ship Alex and Lenaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Argh, this book is killing me though. I want to read it NOW!
ReplyDeleteI don't know how she COULD choose. I think something will have to happen that pushes her one way or another. I think Alex is going to be the last one standing, though!
ReplyDeleteAlex, definitely. Lena needs someone who can continue to help her grow and learn.
ReplyDeleteI just love Alex, but I'm also starting to love Julian ... hmmm so probably Alex since Delirium :)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Alex. He basically made her who she is and knows everything about her.
ReplyDeleteI'm going with Alex.
ReplyDeleteI love them both, but I love Alex more!
ReplyDeleteIt's such a hard decision! Alex helped Lena first though, and based on how it sounds he is now from the end of Pandemonium, she might get to return the favor and help to heal him in Requiem. Sorry Julian, but I'm hoping she chooses Alex!
ReplyDeleteI still have yet to read Pandemonium, so I choose Alex (haven't been introduced to Julian yet). Thanks for the amazing giveaway!
ReplyDeleteRabiah
Alex for sure!! There is not a single doubt in my mind =D Can't wait to read Requiem!
ReplyDeleteAlex all the way! Thanks for the giveaway :D
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait. I am so Team Alex.
ReplyDeleteI just found this quote! AHHHH!
ReplyDelete"It is the rule of the Wilds.
You must be bigger, and stronger, and tougher.
A coldness radiates through me, a solid wall that is growing, piece by piece, in my chest. He doesn't love me.
He never loved me.
It was all a lie.
'The old Lena is dead', I say, and then push past him. Each step is more difficult than the last; the heaviness fills me and turns my limbs to stone.
You must hurt, or be hurt."
Team Alex. Muahaha.
ReplyDelete“Over the past week, I’ve accepted that I will never love Julian as much as I loved Alex. But now that idea is overwhelming, like a wall between us. I will never love Julian like I love Alex.” -Requiem, Lauren Oliver

ALEX! No question about it.
ReplyDeleteI am Team Alex all the way! He was the one who got her to where she is and her first love who would have died for her.
ReplyDeleteNo question - Alex "woke her up" and got her out. Lena HAS to end up with him.
ReplyDeleteI don't know exactly because both boys are adorable and Oliver really did a good job keeping it hard to choose from the two boys,I mean if you were in Lena's place can you really choose?
ReplyDeleteAlex!!!!
ReplyDeleteAlex. Hands down
ReplyDeleteAlex!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI want Julian! But I'd be okay with Alex too. ;)
ReplyDeleteAlex definitely!! But I feel sorry for Julian :P
ReplyDeleteALEX all the way!
ReplyDeleteJulian :>
